Nicki Young - Life Journey

My Story…

I’m Nicki, a certified life coach – but that’s not all I am!

I’ve had a career in the television industry for over three decades … and it’s been truly amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to work with fantastic colleagues, travel to far flung places I’d never have otherwise seen and had the privilege of being invited into the lives of countless people I would never have met in any other career. When I started working on documentary and factual programmes all those years ago I soon realised that everyone has a story, everyone has their own struggles and everyone deserves kindness and to be listened to.

So my work has always been about people. But now as a life and mindset coach I’m ready to help in a more direct way. I benefited from coaching some years ago when I was stuck in my career, was carrying a lot of sadness with me and finding things tough financially. I found so much clarity and focus and life suddenly slipped into gear again.

Back to Basics

The basics are that I’ve passed the big 6-0, I’m a wife, mum, sister and friend. My husband and I have had many adventures over our 30 plus years together and we have the most wonderful, now grown-up daughter, who lights up my world. I lost my fun, caring, capable dad almost thirty years ago to cancer. My kind, clever mum, who coped so well without him for so long, but lived the last years of her life with vascular dementia, passed away just recently.

I have a lot of love in my life, which I’m hugely grateful for. And I look for joy wherever I can – it’s often in the little things: getting out for a walk every day or spending time alone pottering in the garden. There’s nothing better than eating homegrown potatoes or making jam with the gooseberries that come each year. I love being with friends, eating good food, drinking red wine – and laughing!

What makes me tick?

Creativity is at my core – but I’m also very practical and a good problem solver. I used to think that I was a jack of all trades, master of none and saw this as a negative thing. But then I realised it’s what makes me Me and is fundamental to the way I’ve approached life and has allowed me to achieve the things I have.

I’ve always been one to take risks … not in an adrenaline junkie kind of way, but when life has presented me with opportunities outside my comfort zone I’ve often said yes. Not necessarily immediately – I like to mull things over and be sure in my gut that I feel I’m making the right decision, so hopefully I won’t look back and regret it. Of course, like anyone else I’ve made mistakes and I do have a handful of regrets. But I believe that mistakes are OK – they’re how we learn and grow. And overall my choices have given me some amazing experiences and taken me places I could never have imagined.

Why work with me?

I want to help you feel good about yourself and get the most out of life as you reach and work through your mid-life years. I’ve been through them, am still in them … so I know first-hand how tough it can be. But I also know how great it can be. Every single experience I’ve had feeds into the person I have become – and that’s true of all of us. Sometimes we just need a helping hand to get clarity and make confident decisions.

I trained and graduated as a Life Coach with Pure Coaching Academy (a course accredited by the International Authority for Professional Coaching & Mentoring)
